Fasting Hacks.

What is fasting?

Fasting is one of the most powerful yet underutilized spiritual disciplines a Believer has to build intimacy with God. This is an intentional time of "pushing back the plate" in order to starve the flesh and strengthen our spirit. Many results can be achieved during and even after a fast is completed. Pride decreases while humility increases. Deeper dependence upon God's strength is formed. Nearness to God is more evident as we begin to hear His voice more and more clearly. We can receive fresh vision and direction, amongst many other benefits, including healing, deliverance, and heightened personal revelation from the Holy Spirit. Overall, we are equipped to carry a new anointing of His presence into the world around us, walking in greater spiritual maturity and understanding so we can accomplish God's perfect will.

How do I fast?

1. Replace "meal times" with spending intentional time with Jesus. If you're not spending time with Jesus during a fast, you're just starving yourself.

2. Replace entertainment with reading the Word or other good resources that will help you grow spiritually.

3. Write out a list of prayer points and commit to praying them out every day. Don't just pray for yourself, pray for others too.

4. Go to bed early so your body can recover as much as possible.

Types of Fasts.

1. Water only

2. Liquids only (juices, smoothies, soup)

3. Specific meals or types of foods

4. Daniel Fast (only eating fruits, vegetables, and grains)

** Let the Holy Spirit help you determine what kind of fast you're doing, not other people.

FAQs.

1. What if I have a laborious job?

2. What if I have a medical condition that requires me to eat?

3. What if I have a history of disordered eating?

Simple answer: Fasting is more about the posture of your heart than the amount of food you're not consuming. Use wisdom, seek professional or medical advice if necessary, and ask the Holy Spirit what's best for you. If you'd like advice from a pastor directly, email connect@thsf.org
